Rainoldi is based in Chiuro, the true winemaking heart of the valley, and continues to be supported by the constant commitment of the family of the same name. The greatest attention is mainly paid to the production of red wines, obtained from what can be considered the most noble of vines: Nebbiolo. The Rainoldi winery was founded in 1925 by Aldo Rainoldi, son of Giuseppe, already known at that time for his work as a trader and exporter of wines and agricultural products to nearby Switzerland. In the early Seventies the winery experienced a flourishing moment of growth, characterized by the development of foreign markets with wines that were the result of both careful selection in the vineyard and a refined knowledge of winemaking techniques.
The wines of the Rainoldi winery and, in general, the wines of Valtellina, represent a sort of heroic viticulture, as the Nebbiolo vineyards are literally perched on the impervious, but excellently exposed, slopes of the Rhaetian side. The cultivation of the vine is carried out exclusively by hand, since, except for some plots with gentler slopes, it is almost impossible to introduce any type of machine or form of mechanization.
The range of wines produced by Rainoldi ranges from the classics Inferno, Sassella and Grumello, left to rest for at least two years in Slavonian oak barrels, up to the reserves of Sassella and Inferno, produced only in the best years and kept in the cellar for three years before marketing. Wines that are the expression of a difficult, but qualitatively excellent territory.
