This is the story of a revolutionary, of a pioneer who, first of all, decided to raise his gaze beyond the Roero hills and aim at the world, starting from his cellar in Canale. Matteo reached the stars and himself became a star, the asteroid Matteo Correggia n. 13917, whose orbit crosses that of the asteroid Roero n. 8075… far but close, in an indissoluble bond, as only destiny can be.

It was 1985, when at 23 years old Matteo inherited the lands and farm of his father Giovanni Battista. In those years the>Roero was a land of mixed agriculture and the wine produced was consumed by family and friends. His project is to create wines worthy of bringing the name of Roero to the world, enhancing the terroir , which had until then been underestimated. He will succeed with Ròche d'Ampsèj, the first wine with the Roero denomination to fly overseas.

Soon his avant-garde work was noticed by Roberto Voerzio and Elio Altare, who began to give him advice and follow his progress. Shortly thereafter, Matteo joined the Barolo Boys, he, the only non-Barolo winemaker, with whom he shares the ideals of change, but does not follow the same winemaking styles, as they are not suited to the Roero territory, capable of producing extremely elegant and floral.

For the production, ahead of other winemakers in the area, he divides and names the various vineyards. 1987 saw the birth of the first Crus, Marun (pure Barbera) and La Val dei Preti (100% Nebbiolo wine), perfectly capable of enhancing the distinctive features of the millenary sands of the Roero.

In 1989 Matteo turned to the then nascent Slow Food in search of inspiration for his labels. There fate makes its move again and, on the advice of friends of Slow Food, he meets Coco Cano, the Uruguayan artist who has always been in love with the Roero hills, who will create the company's labels in the following decades and up to today.

In 2001 Matteo tragically lost his life working in his vineyards: fate irreversibly changed the course of events, but did not break the enthusiasm and courage of the Correggia family, who continued on the tracks already laid by Matteo, always under the sign of innovation, love and respect for Roero.
