Barone Ricasoli : rarely does a name evoke such a long and important history linked to wine. Ricasoli is a name of great caliber linked to a history that dates back to the Middle Ages , in fact the emblem of the family is the Brolio Castle , in the heart of Chianti , which came into the possession of the family in 1141. But the name Ricasoli is also strongly linked , and above all, to Bettino, politician and wine entrepreneur of the 19th century, Baron Bettino Ricasoli . He was in fact the inventor of the modern recipe for Chianti Classico , developed in 1872, and which included the presence of a blend of 70% Sangiovese and the remaining 30% divided between Canaiolo and Malvasia Bianca , very popular vines in the area. We are in Gaiole , in the heart of Chianti Classico and the company extends over approximately 1200 hectares, of which approximately 240 are vineyards and 26 are cultivated with olive groves.
Francesco Ricasoli , current owner and president of Barone Ricasoli, has been at the helm of the family company since 1993. The prestigious Chianti winery has always carried forward the concept of high quality wine and in particular has always concentrated on the most famous grape variety of the Tuscany and Italy: Sangiovese . Francesco's activity has focused on this objective in recent years, i.e. on the development of many research projects, both on the vine and on the zoning of the territory (identifying and distinguishing the best areas for Sangiovese) with the vision of operating increasingly in modern and sustainable precision viticulture. Another important concept for the Ricasoli family is represented by the concept of sustainability: the three cornerstones are the social , environmental and economic aspect (certified by the Equalitas guarantee). The most representative company of Chianti Classico considers its territory a great heritage to be protected and promoted at the same time, and does so by producing local wines respecting the environment and traditions.
