Chateau de Reignac

Chateau de Reignac
Information
Region: Bordeaux (France)
Year of foundation: 1990
Winemaker: Michel Rolland
Address: 38 Chemin de Reignac Saint-Loubes - 33450 France

The castle was built in the 16th century by the "seigneur" Baude de Payron and underwent important changes in the following two centuries; in the 19th century an internal courtyard with a greenhouse designed by Gustave Eiffel was built. In 1990 the castle, with its estate, was purchased by Yves and Stephanie Vatelot who, with great enthusiasm and tenacity, worked to bring Reignac up to the level of the most famous Bordeaux wines.

The estate has a characteristic that makes it almost unique, in fact it combines in its vineyards the characteristics of the two banks of the Loire, the right bank is clayey and limestone and the left bank is clayey and stony. The Vatelots obtained the best recognition for their commitment when, in 2001, in a "blind" tasting, Olivier Poussier, best sommelier in the world in 2000, and other well-known tasters from all over the world, awarded 96/100 to a wine from 14 euros, among sacred monsters costing hundreds of euros a bottle: it was the Bordeaux Superieur from Chateau de Reignac. A truly unique satisfaction!
