Castellare di Castellina was born from the union of four farms (Castellare, Caselle, San Niccolò and Le Case) created by Paolo Panerai with the aim of producing wine of the best possible quality. It was the 70s: the so-called Renaissance of Italian wine had begun. A Renaissance to which Castellare was able to contribute, keeping tradition and innovation together. A story that demonstrates how these elements can make the best of the land and show the new generations how hard, yet fundamental for the extraordinary landscape of Chianti, was the work and life of the sharecroppers, that is, those who ran the farms without being or masters or workers. To the Mezzadri, to their work, Castellare dedicated a sculpture by Matteo Spender installed in the center of Castellina.
The direct relationship between the Castellare winery and the territory is expertly mixed with a constant search for innovation and quality; Sodi di San Niccolò is the most important wine produced by Castellare, a wine that has managed to obtain the highest ratings from all the main guides. It is a union of Sangiovese, largely, with Malvasia Nera, the two native vines on which Castellare bases all its activity.
In addition to this historic bottle, Castellare di Castellina produces a top-level Chianti, which has also won multiple awards and is recognized as among the best in its type. The labels that appear on the bottles have become famous and reproduce, year after year, specimens of endangered birds.
