In 1922, the young Alfredo Prunotto met and married Luigina, with whom he decided to take over the Cantina Sociale "Ai Vini delle Langhe", giving it his name. The winery, thanks to the passion of the couple, soon became famous and began to export wines all over the world: first to South America and later to the United States, whose markets opened in those years.

Prunotto is one of the few companies to believe in that economic perspective. In 1956, Alfredo Prunotto decided to retire from business, handing over the company to his winemaker friend Beppe Colla, supported by Carlo Filiberti and later by his brother Tino Colla.

In 1989, the Marchesi Antinori family began its collaboration with the Prunotto company, first dealing with distribution and then, in 1994, with the retirement of the Colla brothers, also directly with production, maintaining the excellent quality level strongly desired by Alfredo Prunotto. One of the most important objectives set by the Antinori family, in agreement with the Colla family, is to produce from their own vineyards and have more careful control of the product from birth.

This project came to fruition in 1990, when Albiera Antinori, the eldest daughter of Marquis Piero Antinori, further delineated the personality of the winery, dedicating particular attention to the acquisition of vineyards, first and foremost among which: the Costamiole vineyard, in Agliano, for the production of Barbera d'Asti, the vineyard in the Bussia cru, one of the most renowned in the Barolo area and land in Calliano for the study and analysis of new vines such as Albarossa and Syrah.
The cellar uses the most modern technologies in order to guarantee the highest quality of the wines. In particular, great attention was paid to updating the aging techniques and renovating the winemaking rooms, where the old 100 hectoliter barrels gave way to medium-sized barriques and oak and where the old concrete tanks were replaced by steel tanks. The Antinori family has been able to maintain the excellent level of quality sought by Alfredo Prunotto, producing some of the best crus of Barolo, Barbaresco and Barbera . Wines closely linked to the territory and tradition, elegant interpreters of the most prestigious denominations of Piedmont.
