Galardi

The history of Galardi is, in some ways, different from that of many other wineries that were born in Campania in recent decades, freeing themselves from the transfer as a reaction to a remuneration for the grapes no longer commensurate with the efforts in the vineyard.

Even though they were approaching wine for the first time, Dora and Arturo Celentano, Maria Luisa Murena and Francesco Catello were firmly convinced that they could do something important for their territory, as in fact it was. The challenge was to produce an "international" wine by vocation, while experimenting with two absolutely native varieties, such as Aglianico (80%) and Piedirosso (20%). The collaboration with Riccardo Cotarella began almost immediately and continues today that Terra di Lavoro has become " a wine that he does not disdain to compete with the great Tuscans and Piedmontese ".

The company, founded in 1991 and certified organic for some years, is located in the San Carlo hamlet of Sessa Aurunca , in the province of Caserta, close to the Roccamonfina Regional Park. The vineyards, which alternate with olive groves and chestnut woods, are at an altitude of around 400/500 meters and overlook the Gulf of Gaeta, about twenty kilometers away by road.

“ I owe a lot to this wine ”, swears Riccardo Cotarella. But Campania wine also owes a lot to Galardi and Terra di Lavoro, which deserves credit, certainly not exclusive, for having turned the spotlight on a wine-growing district that was practically unknown (or almost) about twenty years ago and which today is instead, among the most interesting in the South.
