Pecchenino

The Pecchenino agricultural company has, since its origins (in 1700), been characterized by being of a typically family nature. Most of its land is located in the municipality of Dogliani, while a small plot of 3 hectares is cultivated in the Monforte d'Alba area, with some prestigious vineyards located in the famous Barolo crus “Le Coste” and “Bussia”. However, not many people know that, initially, the historic nucleus consisted of only 8 hectares of vineyards to which new land was then added to reach the recent 32 hectares of total vineyard area. Most of the vineyards are planted with Dolcetto, a native Langhe grape, while the remaining areas are planted with Barbera, Nebbiolo, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. Furthermore, respect for nature is maximum and for this purpose, for example, grassing is practiced to avoid soil erosion due to rain and to contribute to natural biodiversity; even chemical fertilizers and pesticides are never used in favor of organic fertilizer, another practice in use concerns treatments with sulfur and copper to defeat threats such as downy mildew and powdery mildew. In doing so, the vineyards found their ideal balance and harmony, managing to produce grapes of the highest quality and rare workmanship. The work of harvesting and then wine production is no less, the harvest is carried out manually to select only the best grapes and in the cellar the best techniques have been developed for what concerns winemaking, aging and refinement, without ever use additional substances and using minimal doses of sulfur dioxide. This is how wines such as Barolo “Le Coste” or San Giuseppe, Barbera d'Alba “Quass” or Nebbiolo “Botti|” are born: Pecchenino produces around one hundred thousand bottles per year of pure and great Piedmontese tradition!
