The history of the Sottiano winery began in 1968 when, at the end of his oenology studies, Rino began his own wine production; enthusiasm, passion and even a bit of luck led him to purchase the farm and some vineyards in the Cottà area. The first successes thrilled Rino and his wife who gradually managed to purchase small plots of land among the most prestigious in the Barberasco area. And the hectares become 18. A silent belief which, right from the start, led Sattivano to work in the vineyard in the most natural way possible and with a great selection of the grapes, in order to have, through low yields of the grapes, a high concentration that It allows you to produce structured, full-bodied and very long-lived wines. Since the beginning of the 90s, the treatments to defend the vineyards from the traditional diseases that affect the vine have been fought with environmentally friendly products and are reduced to a minimum and carried out only if necessary, without any use of herbicides and pesticides. Even in the cellar the same philosophy is used: natural yeasts, long macerations, refinement of over a year "sur lie", no manipulations of any kind are carried out, both the alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in a completely natural way, without the use of selected yeasts and bottling takes place without clarification or filtration, following the Langhe tradition. Today the company is made up of 5 Barbaresco crus: Currà, Cottà, Fausoni, Pajorè and Basarin plus Dolcetto Bric del Salto, Barbera Pairolero and Matè, a red wine produced with Brachetto grapes. Production is approximately 85,000 bottles in total, of which approximately 25,000 of Barbaresco. The second generation has already arrived in the company, namely the children Andrea, Elena and Claudia, who continue the work with the same passion as Rino, with the single aim of combining modernity and tradition.
