Petrolo extends into the Val d'Arno di Sopra DOC, on the borders of the Chianti Classico. A territory that has a long history, but also an ancient vocation for the production of great wines, dating back to the 26th century. The peculiarities of this area represent an added value; the microcosm of Petrolo creates truly favorable, unique conditions, thanks to the coexistence of the vineyards with the woods and olive trees and the composition of the soil: all elements that contribute to promoting the perfect growth of the different varieties of cultivated grapes. For this reason, since the early 2000s, the company has embarked on a path of conversion to organic farming, a way of living and acting that is the basis of the winery to actively support the quality of the territory. The current estate, in the 1940s, was purchased by the Bazzocchi family, who have currently managed it for 4 generations, continuing that tradition which previously saw the production of quality wines. This dedication and passion have, up to the present day, led to undoubted critical and public success, as demonstrated for example by the Tre Bicchieri awarded by the Gambero Rosso guide. The property extends over over 270 hectares, of which approximately 30 are currently under vineyards, while twenty are dedicated to the cultivation of olive trees. Here both native and so-called "international" grapes are grown, such as cabernet sauvignon, sangiovese, merlot, trebbiano and white malvasia. The cellar is led by the expert Simone Cuccoli with the advice of the great Carlo Ferrini. The inspiring principle is essentially one: to be as least invasive as possible in the transformation of grapes into wine to enhance nature, the fruit and its intrinsic characteristics. So the fermentations are carried out in vitrified concrete tanks using only native yeasts, while the refinement is carried out in barriques and oak barrels. The wines are therefore rich, structured, powerful, while maintaining a unique balance and elegance. Simply excellent wines.
