Managed since the early 2000s by the Frescobaldi family, Tenuta dell'Ornellaia produces excellent wines capable of enhancing the genuine peculiarities of the typical Tuscan terroir. It was in 1981 that the Marquis Lodovico Antinori founded the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, in Bolgheri, immediately starting the planting of the first vines, in an area certainly not famous (at the time) for quality wines. The winemaking activity developed in a short time and already in 1988 the first vintage of what would become the symbolic wine of a large family and an entire territory saw the light: the prized Ornellaia, in which the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc grapes are mixed , Merlot and Petit Verdot. In the following years, the estate's activities recorded a notable expansion: new vineyards were purchased and collaborations began with the best international experts in the wine sector. Of particular note are the names of the winemaker Michel Rolland and the Californian producer Robert Mondavi who, in 2000, purchased 100% of the estate and then sold 50% of it to the Frescobaldi family. In the following years, the latter's collaboration with the Marchesi de' Frescobaldi family intensifies until the sale of the remaining 50% in 2004 and sees the birth of labels that win over critics and lovers of good drinking. The result of such success is linked to the winery's desire to constantly put quality first: in the selection of the grapes, in the choice of cultivation, processing and bottling techniques of the wine. However, the particular terroir in which the grapes grow and ripen is also an accomplice to the creation of Ornellaia's quality wines. The estate is in fact located in Bolgheri, an iconic place in Tuscany, where the passion for wine develops in perfect harmony with a benevolent nature: under the influences of the Mediterranean Sea, protected by the slopes of the hills resting on heterogeneous soils, in which origins mix volcanic, marine and alluvial, the property's vineyards extend as far as the eye can see and give rise to superior quality vines. Today, alongside the white and red Ornellaia, other high-class bottles appear such as Serre Nuove, Le Volte, Il Poggio alle Gazze. And there is no shortage of special editions that can express the individuality of each different vintage, to the benefit of collectors and enthusiasts.
