Girlan is the story of a winery born from the recognition that "unity is strength". In 1923, 23 winemakers joined together to create a beautiful wine reality near Cornaiano, also called Girlan, we are in Alto Adige. They had as their professional background their passion, experience and desire to do what distinguishes those who love the land, know how to respect it and reap its fruits. The terroir is among the most suitable in Italy, with a heterogeneity of soils that vary from area to area. Based on this, it was established which vines are suitable for the soils in question, rather than others. For example, the Mazzon estate is the ideal one for the production of Pinot Noir, while Appiano is the area most suited to the production of white wines based on Pinot Bianco. Particular is the Gschleier area where the Schiava vine is grown, managing to obtain a product with low yield due to the clay-limestone structure of the soil. The altitude is between 250 and 550 meters in an area between Bassa Atesina and Oltradige. The rows are arranged neatly on the slopes of the sun-kissed hills. Biodiversity and the precious ecosystem are protected thanks to the foresight of the company which wanted to ban all chemical substances. The low environmental impact combined with respect for biodiversity allows us to obtain free grapes that will give wines with a defined and representative character of the territory. The care starts from the vineyard and reaches the cellar, passing through the supervision of a staff of oenologists and agronomists who support the winemakers by providing valuable advice and suggestions. Helmut Meraner, Oscar Lorandi and Helmut Strumpflohner follow and arrange improvements and measures in the vineyard without forcing the plant into production. All members work towards the common goal: the achievement of quality in full respect of traditions. The cellar uses the best oenological techniques to protect the starting grapes. While in the vineyard we work with organic farming, in the cellar we try to keep the organoleptic qualities of the grapes intact in terms of colour, aromas and structure. Well-finished, elegant products that respect the environment and local traditions: what else?
