Angiuli Donato

The Angiuli winery is one of the first in Puglia to grow and make wine exclusively from its own grapes, focusing everything on the native Primitivo variety: we are even talking about 1880, when all the grape production was destined for sale to third parties or for family consumption. A historical reality, therefore, which over the decades has had the greatest merit of maintaining faith in the founder's principle: the valorization of local native vines. The territory is the real focus and the native varieties are considered priority and, of course, the microclimate adds its characteristic touch. There are therefore 3 generations who have and are managing the family business: today Donato is still at the helm, already assisted by his sons Giuseppe and Vito. The winery is located in the municipality of Adelfia, in the province of Bari, and we can say that it is located in the heart of the DOC denomination of origin "Gioia del Colle" and today, as in the past, it continues to pursue the established philosophy since its origins. In addition to Primitivo, we find Negroamaro, Verdeca and Moscato Bianco. Vines ranging from fifty to eighty years of age, and which are grown with the traditional sapling system, an ancient system which actually penalizes the growth of the grapes in quantity, enhancing their quality. And, naturally, even in the cellar the processes are aimed at intervening in the least possible way using only indigenous yeasts and letting each wine refine for at least two years before being put on the market. There are currently 2 lines proposed: “Angiuli” and “Maccone”. Red, rosé, white and sparkling wines are undoubtedly all the best expression of the territory of origin, where passion and love for one's land are certainly the most important ingredient.
