La Monacesca

The La Monacesca winery owes its name to a small group of monks from Farfa who, in the 10th century, to escape the barbarian invasions in Northern Italy, took refuge in this valley, building a small church and a convent which today are well restored and they are part of the company village. In 1966, Casimiro Cifola purchased this farm and began planting vines: in particular, Verdicchio. In 1973 the first Verdicchio La Monacesca was ready and, once placed on the market, was immediately very successful. Aldo, Casimiro's son, joined his father in running the cellar in 1982 and began planting other vines such as Sangiovese, Merlot and Chardonnay. Even today Aldo is a volcano of new ideas, carrying on the family business with passion and vivacity. The La Monacesca winery is located in the municipality of Matelica, in the province of Macerata. It is located in the upper Lesino Valley, in a truly privileged position for the cultivation of grapes, surrounded by mountains that inhibit the access of sea breezes, creating an absolutely unique microclimate different from that of the rest of the area, with large daily and seasonal temperature variations which, from a quantitative point of view, make the production of grapes difficult, from a qualitative point of view they are able to provide very high level fruit, from which the extraordinary wines of La Monacesca are born. The aim of the winery has always been to produce excellent, original wines, with the aromas and flavors of times gone by, which could tell the magic of a land rich in history and tradition. The true expression of Matelica wines shines with liveliness and great dynamism in the glasses of these splendid wines, giving unique and satisfying sensations.
