Satta Michele

The history of Michele Satta's winery is singular to say the least: in fact he arrived as a tourist, at the age of 18, in Castagneto Carducci and, in fact, never left again. He comes from Varese, of Sardinian origins, and was on holiday with his parents, fresh out of high school and just enrolled in the Faculty of Agriculture, when he received the offer to work as a laborer on a local farm. From then on, Michele began to learn everything there was to know about agriculture, then founding his own winery just under 10 years later, in 1983. To date he is considered one of the absolute protagonists of the Bolgheri area, whose DOC was established in 1984. The right man, in the right place, at the right time. From the year of incorporation to today, a lot of progress has been made, especially the conquest of international markets that were unthinkable at the beginning, but it must be said that alongside the company's growth, Michele has created a beautiful family, where together with his wife Lucia there are 6 children , 2 of whom, Giacomo and Benedetta, follow in their father's footsteps in the company. Today the Michele Satta winery has a vineyard area of approximately 24 hectares; the vineyards are among those further south in the entire Bolgheri area and are recognized for the great fertility of the soil. In the vineyard, where organic farming procedures are followed, those white and red grape varieties are grown that Michele deems most suitable, after years of observations and experiments, such as viognier, vermentino, sauvignon, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, syrah, sangiovese and, even, teroldego. Today, around 160,000 bottles are produced in the Castegneto Carducci winery, divided between eight different labels, from whites, such as "Giovin Re" and "Costa di Giulia", to great reds, starting from "Piastraia" and "Cavaliere" for reach the "Castagni", Bolgheri Superiore which represents the top of the range and a true excellence of the Bolgheri area.
