Castello di ColleMassari is a winery in the Alta Maremma, belonging to the Montecucco DOCG. The estate is located between the DOCG areas of Brunello di Montalcino and those of Morellino di Scansano, about 300 meters above sea level and is oriented towards the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is why it enjoys a microclimate characterized by strong winds and significant temperature variations. This prestigious agricultural area also benefits from ideal conditions for the cultivation of the Sangiovese grape. The entire agronomic management of the company takes place according to the dictates of organic farming . The ColleMassari company, owned by Maria Iris and Claudio Tipa, is made up of three estates, the Castello di ColleMassari, the Podere Grattamacco and the Fattoria Poggio di Sottob. Both the older vines, i.e. those that are over half a century old, and the new plantings all enjoy the particular Maremma terroir. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Ciliegiolo and Vermentino are the vines that have made the name of the ColleMassari company famous throughout the world. The ColleMassari winery is located in Cinigiano and is the result of a project by the architect Edoardo Milesi. The structure was born from the encounter with green building and energy saving and is entirely designed to give the worker a high quality job. In the cellar, both the wine and the grapes are moved through a gravity process, which takes place by gravity without the help of electromechanical pumps. In addition to energy and water savings, the presence of insects is also limited in the cellar, while that of wood fungi and mold is meticulously controlled by the use of cladding made of red cedar. The cellar is entirely built using bioclimatic solutions made with waterproof and breathable membranes. The latter cover the facades of the building and are necessary for the wines to be stored at a constant temperature. The ColleMassari winery extends for 36 hectares and enjoys an ideal microclimate for the production and conservation of wines that always contain the essence of the Maremma territory. The annual wine production of the ColleMassari winery is estimated at 800,000 bottles.
