The Avignonesi winery was founded in 1974 by the Falvo brothers and consolidated over the years a production of very high quality red wines, starting with the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano docg, as the winery itself is located in this splendid location, in southern Tuscany. The company was acquired in 2009 by a young and far-sighted Belgian entrepreneur, Virginie Saverys, who set a new course based on eco-sustainability, supported by a staff of young and technically trained people, such as the agronomist Alessio Gorini and the oenologist Matteo Justinians. Virginie immediately marked a turning point towards natural agriculture, first through an organic and then biodynamic approach, in absolute harmony with the environment; a certainly challenging approach, given the almost 200 hectares of vineyards in the winery to be converted to such particular and innovative cultivation regimes. The Avignonesi vineyards are divided into eight plots in Montepulciano and two in Cortona, with different soils that allow for significant variety and experimentation in the vineyard and cellar. The work philosophy is totally focused on respect for the environment, with the use of the famous biodynamic preparations, such as Cornoletame 500 or Cornosilice 501, in order to avoid the use of herbicides, pesticides and chemical fertilizers, replaced by alternative cultivation techniques such as green manure between the rows and phytotherapeutic herbal teas, with the aim of fortifying the natural defenses of the vine. The wines of Avignonesi, thanks to the organic and biodynamic conversion, are improving year after year, with increasingly broader aromas and flavors faithful to the territory of origin. The cellar, located on the Lodola estate, contains both large Slavonian oak barrels and small French oak barriques to refine the precious Sangiovese-based reds, such as the famous Vino Nobile di Montepulciano docg. The result of these obsessive attentions is represented by labels of great personality and balance, worthy of note and unmissable is Vin Santo, an appreciated and award-winning label throughout the world.
