Roger Groult's Calvados Pays d'Auge Vénérable is a refined distillate, with a delicately amber colour, persistent and with a complex aroma. It is one of the flagship productions of the Roger Groult distillery made from the assembly of a series of cider spirits, aged for a minimum of 18 years in oak barrels and subjected to a double distillation which, according to the most traditional methods, is done directly on the wood fire. It is obtained, specifically, from Pays d'Auge apple cider and is made only in limited areas of the Calvados region, in Lower Normandy, according to the rules of the AOC denomination. Although this distillate was already known in the times of Charlemagne, it was at the end of the 1800s, when phylloxera devastated all the cultivation of vines in Europe, that Calvados established itself significantly, filling the gaps left by the production of wine. Roger Groult's Calvados Pays d'Auge Vénérable is a particularly pleasant product to sip in company and in complete relaxation, particularly suitable as a gift, thanks to the elegant packaging with case.
